Studying Your Word of the Year-verses

Are you staying warm? I am happily watching the days pass by and get closer and closer to March and Spring! I’m so grateful that the Lord made His creation the way He did, and, knowing our flaws, caused the seasons to change. He knows my flakey heart, so each time I tire of weather, I grin knowing He knows me well.

Word Study-verses

Have you been studying your word origin? Find anything intriguing? The next thing I like to look up on the word after I figure out the meaning and definitions of my word is the verses with the word. Then, I make a list of ways my word is gained or what can be, and a list of ways the verses say how to attain it. For instance, with my word

What can be renewed?

  1. attitude of your mind (Ephesians 4:23)
  2. mind (Romans 12:2)
  3. inner man (2 Corinthians 4:16)
  4. new self (Colossians 3:10)
  5. steadfast spirit (Psalm 51:10)

How can they be renewed?

  1. put off old self and sin (Ephesians 4:22)
  2. offer body as living sacrifice and deny pattern of this world (Romans 12:1-2)
  3. Holy Spirit and drawing closer to eternity (2 Corinthians 4:13-17)
  4. learning about God and His character (Colossians 3:10)
  5. God’s help and spirit through prayer (Psalm 51:10)

The questions for your lists will be tailored to your word. For instance, if your word is “commit” you might make a list of what the Bible specifies committing to and how to go about it. Or if your word is surrender, you may make a list of what can be surrendered and how the Bible says to surrender. You could make a list of what could come OF doing your word. Like, what should come as a result of _________? Do a quick google search of “Bible verses with _____________” and there will be sites that have many already organized for you. See if there’s a continuing process in common and go with it.

What I loved about this list for my word is that it gives me more areas to focus than just what I initially had in mind. Anything that broadens my horizons on learning is always greatly appreciated because I LOVE learning easily, and detest learning lessons the hard way as much as the next person. haha! I hope you have a great weekend! See you next Friday for more word study! Also, I’m working on some printable worksheets for the word study series, so I hope to have those up and available soon 🙂
